KELP!

The forlorn tale of a soul who doesn’t receive enough
attention from his baby…

She teases her hair in the mirror
She winks at herself once or twice
Her reflection gets so much attention
I’m a trout at the market on ice

To my baby I’m nothing but a big piece of kelp on the beach
A big hunk of driftwood on the shore
The kind of plywood you gotta buy in a sheet
Lean it on the wall or lay it on the cold, cold floor

She stops at the top of the stairway
Changes her lipstick again
The movie begins at eight-thirty
My watch says a quarter past ten

I’m chopped liver for breakfast; I’m chopped liver for lunch
You haven’t shown me the menu for dinner
But, honey I got a hunch

I wouldn’t say you’re a bad lover at all
I wouldn’t say you used as me as a means to an end
I just want to know why when you made love to me
You were callin’ the names of my friends…

You left me wiggling like great big green blob of kelp on the beach
A big hunk of driftwood on the shore
The kind of plywood you gotta buy in a sheet
Lean it on the wall, lean it on the wall, lean it on the wall
Or lay it on the cold, cold floor
